Sutukil!

March 21, 2006 at 8:47 am (Food Trips)

March 18, 2006. That was the date. At 5pm the gang was already poised for the evening’s adbentyur. On a side note though, it was a case of multiple coincidences since we somehow planned to dine the “Sutukil” way, and generally oblivious to the fact that the date we set was just 2 days after March 16, which….

almost half a century ago (four hundred and eighty-five years to be exact), Magellan, the Portuguese explorer who was the first to circumnavigate our globe, and his fleet reached the virgin shores of Samar

… and he, according to popular history, died at the hands of the great warrior-chieftain Lapu-Lapu. And we, some hundred-hundred generations of that historical flashback, will have the adbentyur near Mactan shrine! Yes, that place where you see the large statue of Mr. Chief himself in all his glory–muscled body, loincloth, and that big, bad kampilan (a sort of a falchion or heavy scimitar) that might have cleaved Magellan and some of his friends. See the connection? See? See? Okay it’s not really like something that’s going to tickle some historical fascination, but it was a worth the thought.

Enough of history and multiple coincidences. It’s about pictures and pictures and pictures. So let’s tell it this way…

This month’s early birds.

Attack at Abay’s (pictures)

February 24, 2006 at 9:01 am (Food Trips)

The Attack at Abay’s happened at the 12th hour on the 18th of February. Perfect time for the group to indulge in what has got to be a recipe to get those blood pressures soaring. No problem, we’re up for it!
Sano says: “Maynalang hay’labi mag adik-adik!”

Let’s get on with the snapshots:

Noy Kulas with the ravenous eyes and appetized smile.

Mao ni gitawag ug: Pagtagbaw sano!

Congrats to Torax for being the early bird.

Ang duha ka sano naka-table ug chiks! Tag 50pesos kuno.

Relax-relax dayun. Capuccino kuno, ingon sano.

Two happy guys sharing coffee and talking about Brokeback Mountain… ???

Our special guest:

Next month, Sano’s food trip will target a Floating Boat! You’ve read it quite right, it will be a Floating Boat! Though some would argue that picturing a boat would mean it’s likely to float, so the attribute would be redundant. Somehow, word has it that this Floating Boat houses (or should I say ‘boatses’?) a vast selection of seafood treats. It’s up to Sano Julius to find out! Stay tuned folks.
